The 5+ A Day Charitable Trust and Simon Gault Create the Best Salad Ever

The 5+ A Day Charitable Trust has enlisted celebrity chef Simon Gault to create the #BestSaladEver to help Kiwis gobble up their fruit and vegetables this winter season.

We all know we should be consuming lots of fresh produce every day and the team at 5+ A Day inspire Kiwis with how to do that in diverse and delicious ways.

If you’re looking for a new go-to recipe that tastes great and is good for you and your loved ones – we’ve got the dish for you. Simon Gault has combined his tastes and techniques gathered from around the world, as well as his passion for healthy eating, into this tasty and nourishing salad that will have you and your family scrambling for more.

The #BestSaladEver is a winter salad that packs a tasty and nutritious punch; crowning kumara as king and leading into the new avocado season with fresh avocado smash, this is a recipe that your whole family will love. Paired alongside mushrooms and citrus, the #BestSaladEver is packed full of vitamins A, B6 and C, to help keep those wellness fires stoked throughout the chilly months.

Gault says working with 5+ A Day is a way to help demonstrate how easy and delicious it can be to include lots of fruit and vegetables into our diets – and you don’t have to be a professional chef to do it.

“Healthy eating is something that’s close to my heart. I have a young daughter and want to make sure she grows up educated about nutrition and what it means to have a healthy diet. It’s important we set a good example for our kids and 5+ A Day helps to get the message out to Kiwi families about what healthy eating looks like and how easy it really is.

“It’s also about inspiration – healthy doesn’t mean boring. There are so many tasty ways to make sure we’re getting the goodies our bodies need and this winter salad is an example of that. I hope it becomes one of your go-to family recipes, so get excited to get into the kitchen and give it a go yourself!”

5+ A Day General Manager Paula Dudley says it’s great to be working alongside such a renowned chef to help spread the message about healthy eating.

“It’s fantastic to team up with the likes of Simon, with his wealth of knowledge around food and inspired ways of pairing different produce together to create incredible dishes. It’s also invaluable to have spokespeople such as him helping to promote the importance of getting our kids to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables from a young age and how that can set them on the right path to long-term health.

“Eating at least five servings of fresh fruit and vegetables a day fuels not only our bodies but our brains as well, and helps boost our immunity and wellbeing, particularly during the cold winter months. Salads such as the #BestSaladEver recipe make that easy and great value too. One serving is about handful, and everyone uses their own hand, so a kid’s serving is a lot smaller than an adult’s.”

The #BestSaladEver recipe is on our Facebook page now, feel free to let your audience know to check it out and make it at home!
