5+ A Day

About 5+ A Day

Welcome to the 5+ A Day Charitable Trust

5+ A Day is a Charitable Trust that encourages all Kiwis to eat five or more servings of colourful, fresh fruit and vegetables every day for health and vitality.

5+ A Day promotes healthy lifestyles. Just like a car needs the right fuel to run well, we need fresh fruit and vegetables to get the best out of our bodies for physical activity, learning, sport and all our daily activities.

This is in line with our Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation’s recommendations.

About the 5+ A Day Charitable Trust

The 5+ A Day Charitable Trust was formed in 2007 for the benefit of the general public and specifically the children of New Zealand. The Trust is committed to increasing the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables for better health in all New Zealanders.

5+ A Day focuses its work in the education setting. Curriculum-linked resources promoting awareness, understanding and knowledge of the importance of eating 5+ A Day are produced and distributed free to educators and health professionals via our education website 5adayeducation.org.nz and this consumer website www.5aday.co.nz

Our Vision

To have all New Zealanders understanding and enjoying the benefits of a daily diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables.

Why 5+ A Day?

  • For optimal health we should all eat at least five servings of fresh fruit and vegetables every day
  • Specifically we should eat two servings of fruit and three or more of vegetables each day

What is a serving size?

A serving is about a handful and we all use our own hands – therefore a child’s serving is smaller than an adult’s
