Creamy Oats with Poached Tamarillos

Creamy Oats with Poached Tamarillos

Serves: 2-3

Preparation: 5 minutes

Cooking: 20 minutes

 

Ingredients

6 tamarillos
Juice of 2 oranges
3 tablespoons coconut or brown sugar
½ cup boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
Pinch of salt
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup milk
Yoghurt to serve

 

Method   

To prepare the tamarillos, remove the stalk from the fruit and cut in half lengthways

In a medium saucepan, add the tamarillos, orange juice, sugar and boiling water – enough to cover the fruit. Simmer over medium heat but don’t let the water boil. Cook gently for 10-15 minutes until the tamarillos begin to soften. Remove from heat and allow to cool

Remove the tamarillos from the saucepan and peel off the skins

To cook the oats, combine oats, salt and water in a saucepan and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until creamy. Spoon oats into 2-3 bowls and top with poached tamarillos

Serve warm with a sprinkle of cinnamon and spoonful of yoghurt
